A Designer’s Getaway: Puerto Rico

Recently, we’ve been hearing a lot of great things about Puerto Rico. Some friends of ours moved there from Boulder and other parts of Colorado — probably went on vacation and never came back! With United now offering a direct flight from Denver to PR, it didn’t take much convincing to get my husband on board for a quick getaway.

We found a truly spectacular place to stay, and the interiors (and exteriors) were so stunning I had to share. Forgive the personal items in some shots — real life in a beautiful space! The bathroom, in particular, highlighted key design elements I emphasize in my own work:

Organic Materials – Stone tile on floors and walls, natural slab countertops, and walnut cabinetry with exposed wood grain create warmth and depth.

  • Textural Variety – A carved stone wall in the outdoor shower, a fibrous shade on the light fixture, curated decor on the shelves, and even the stripes on the bathrobe all contribute to a rich, layered aesthetic.

  • Indoor/Outdoor Connection – Lush greenery frames the space beautifully, reinforcing a seamless transition between the interior and nature.

  • Metal & Glass Accents – A mix of stainless steel, aged bronze, and lighter bronze finishes create contrast and balance. Don’t be afraid to mix metals!

The rest of the home carried the same thoughtful approach. The living area was bathed in natural light, featuring carefully curated accessories, complementary (but not matchy-matchy) textiles, and an intricately detailed tray ceiling with warm wood trim. And of course, the view was breathtaking.

The bedroom had a slatted wood adjustable wall section — providing privacy for the bathroom when needed while allowing filtered light when open. The interplay of complementary wood tones and grain direction added even more visual interest.

Not surprisingly, the outdoor spaces were spectacular. A gorgeous infinity pool, lush landscaping, and a comfortable patio created an effortlessly inviting atmosphere. But the best part? A short footpath led directly from the backyard to the beach.

All in all — beautiful beaches, views, weather, architecture, and interiors. Plus, everyone we met was absolutely lovely! 10/10, highly recommend.
